Brad Binder kicks off 2019 preseason in good shape
Fresh from winning the 2018 Moto2 Team World Championship, Red Bull KTM Ajo made the transition to the new era of the intermediate class with three days of testing at the Jerez Circuit – Angel Nieto this weekend.
Brad Binder started the 2019 preseason in a positive way, setting the thirteenth fastest time on the combined timesheets. Iker Lecuona participated in the test as a replacement for the injured Jorge Martin on Saturday and Sunday.
After a promising first day on Friday, Binder targeted an improvement to his setup on Saturday. Despite rain in the early afternoon, the South African completed a total of 77 laps and finished the day with the thirteenth fastest time on the combined timesheets: 1:42.465.
On Sunday, morning rain reduced track time but Binder was able to put in a total of 26 laps, finishing the day in seventeenth place for the day -remaining thirteenth overall at the first test of the 2019 preseason.
The Red Bull KTM Ajo team have now concluded their work for 2018, and are enthusiastic about the 2019 season in the Moto2 class.

“These past three days have not gone as expected, since we spent a lot of time in the garage due to the weather conditions. It was important to take full advantage of these days of testing to put in laps and get to know the bike thoroughly. There are different aspects that we have to improve, but the positive thing is that we have detected them now in November and we have the entire winter break to solve them. My feeling with the bike is more or less the same in dry and wet conditions. I thank the team for the work they have done during these three days, since everyone has worked their hardest.”
